<선샤인>은 제가 오스트레일리아에서 두번째로 보는 영화입니다. <선샤인>이 SF라는 이야기를 들었을 때 전문용어로 점철되어 제가 못 알아 듣지는 않을까 걱정을 했었습니다. 사실 전문용어가 아니더라도 못 알아듣는 것은 매한가지인데 말이에요.

"Sun shine" is a my second movie I have seen in Austrailia. I was little worried about this movie because “Sunshine”is a sci-fi movie so it has lot’s of special term. Well, the worry was useless. Anyway I couldn’t understand anything but special terms. There were too many conversation so I had a hard time because of my English.

그럼에도 불구하고 <선샤인>은 즐거운 경험이었습니다. 저는 언제나 대니 보일이란 감독을 좋아해왔었고 따라서 이 영화에도 상당한 기대를 걸었습니다. 그리고 저는 꽤 만족했어요. 물론 대니 보일의

전작을 기억하고 있는 사람들이라면 상당히 불만을 토해낼 영화라는 사실을 부정할 수는 없습니다. <선샤인>에는 대니 보일의 명함과도 같았던 비틀린 센스가 보이지 않습니다. 그는 언제나 세상을 조롱하는 영화를 만들어왔습니다. <트레인스포팅>이나 <28일후>, <밀리언즈>와 같은 영화들이 바로 그렇죠. 그는 짓궂은 장난꾸러기에 가까웠고 저는 기꺼이 그 못된 장난을 즐겼습니다.

But it was really interesting movie. I’ve liked Danny boyle’s movie always, so I had some respect about that movie and I think “Sun shine”didn’t betray my respect.

But someone who remember Danny boil’s movies were little disappointed. Danny boyle’s feature was black-humor. He usually twisted common sense and convention of genre for example  “trainspotting”, “28days later”and “millions”. He was a tricker so we liked his trick before.

하지만 이 영화가 가지고 있는 미래와 신과 인간 사이의 관계에 대한 심각한 통찰들은 바로 전형적인 SF로 수렴하는 것입니다. 여기에는 우리가 기대했던 대니 보일의 익살이 끼어들 여지가 없습니다. 대체 <트레인스포팅>의 그 감독은 어디간 거에요?

But This movie is like common Sci-fi movie because It has a serious vision about future, the relationship between mankind and God so we wouldn’t find his twisted senses. Where is the director who made “Trainspotting”?

<선샤인>은 아서 C. 클라크의 유산인 인류의 미래, 진화 신으로의 회귀라는 묵직한 주제를 다루고 있어요. 대니 보일은 이 주제에 재난 영화와 호러 영화의 요소를 덧입혔습니다. 하지만 이러한 기술은 더 이상 SF에서 새로운 것이 아니지요. <에일리언2>를 생각해보세요.

Basically, “sunshine”is traditional Sci-fi. It has almost thing about science fiction. It has the heritage of Arthur C. Clarke who was one of the most important Sci-fi writer. It has a topic about human-being’s future and evolution, and returning to god, the World, so on. The director connected it with disaster movie genre and horror movie but It was not uncommon thing but very popular formula of Sci-fi ; Think about “Alien2”. you would agree me.

하지만 우리가 대니 보일의 지난 영화들을 제쳐놓고 이 영화를 바라본다면, <선샤인>은 그만의 고유한 재미를 지니고 있습니다. <딥 임팩트>나 <아마게돈>과 같이 재난 영화와 SF를 결합한 공식에 익숙해진 사람들이라면 <선샤인>이 제공하는 이야기에 싫증을 낼 수도 있겠지만 사실 이 영화는 두 선배와는 다른 길을 가고 있어요. <선샤인>은 미지의 존재에 끌린 나머지 파멸해가는 인간에 관한 이야기입니다. 이 역시 그리 새로운 시도라 할 수는 없지만 적어도 대니 보일이 노력한 흔적을 부정할 수는 없지요. 그리고 꽤 먹혔구요. <선샤인>에서 독자적인 요소를 찾아보기란 힘든 일이지만, 그가 여러 장르의 요소들을 솜씨있게 짜깁기 했음은 분명합니다. 그리고 그 스펙타클한 우주의 모습은 인상적이었어요. 특히 태양풍의 그 압도적인 육박이란…

But If we think about it without his past movies, it would be still interesting and have own values. Some people who is used about the old topic of Sci-fi will get sick of this kind of movie like “Deep impact”and “Armageddon”but “sunshine”has a different style. It is a basically disaster movie and It is about someone who attractive to unknown but common things. We already knew the movie called “Antarctic journal”and something like that. It is still common thing in genre but we can recognize his effort and I am not dissatisfied about that movie. There were no new thing but He mixed it very skillfully and the spectacle scenes of that movie were quite good. Especially, the view of sun was very beautiful.

저는 <선샤인>을 그의 “진짜”영화들과 비교하지는 않을 것입니다. 저는 그의 서명과도 같은 잔인한 재치가 보이지 않는 것이 아쉽기는 하지만 그렇다고 꼭 불만을 터뜨릴 일은 아니지요. 혹시 알아요. 이제 대니 보일도 샘 레이미나 피터 잭슨의 후배가 될지요. <선샤인>은 대작이라 부를 만한 작품은 아니지만…피터 잭슨의 <프라이트닝>이나 샘 레이미의 <이블 데드3>를 생각한다면 그리 낙제점은 아닙니다. 잘 해냈지요. 암요.

What is my conclusion? So, I don’t compare this movie with his real movie like “transporting”and I am sorry that his style has disappeared. But we don’t have to complain too much. We already have some director who is success to change their style like “Sam raimi”and “peter Jackson”Who know will Danny boil be success to change?

But I am still miss his one.


ps. 영어로 쓰고 한글로 번역하니 뭔가 이상합니다. 영어로 생각을 하니 군데군데 제 생각과 다른 부분도 보여요. 이거 큰 문제네. 언어가 사고를 지배한다는 말이 어떤 뜻인지 실감이 가려고 합니다.
